Important Travel Update: Flying to Europe in 2024
Oct 02, 2023
The European Union is about to pass a new rule where U.S. citizens (and other nations) traveling to certain European countries must apply for a visa waiver (known as the ETIAS or European Travel Information and Authorization System) to enter these countries.
If you are traveling to Europe next year (2024) for a short-term stay (you are traveling for 90 days or less, which doesn’t require a visa), you must apply for a visa waiver called the ETIAS to enter the country. The European Union will pass this new rule, and 30 European countries will participate in this application process. This list includes popular destinations like France, Spain, and Italy.
It is super important that you apply with ample time before your trip. Although the application and approval process takes only a few minutes and up to 3 days, it is best to do it with time before your flight. You will need 1) a valid passport that doesn't expire for three more months from your travel date and 2) a 7 euro fee paid during the application process.
The list includes:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Cyprus
- Czech Republic
- Denmark
- Estonia
- Finland
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Hungary
- Iceland
- Italy
- Latvia
- Liechtenstein
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- Malta
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Poland
- Portugal
- Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
