LONDON BABY!

united kingdom Oct 02, 2023

Every time I have the opportunity to visit London, I am excited to try almost all (if not all) the excellent food that this city has to offer. So now, let’s take a deep dive into what I ate, what I loved, and what I seriously need to go back to visit.

I arrived Friday late in the evening. As soon as I popped off the train and left my things at the hotel, I met my friend at the Kimpton Fitzroy London Hotel. Inside the hotel is this luscious, velvety, incredibly luxe bar called Fit’z Bar. The ambiance was genuinely sexy, woody, and rich. There was live jazz playing… I truly adored it. As for the drinks, let’s start with the fact that you could only see the menu with a specific light. As per our bartender’s recommendation, we were told to choose a picture from the menu we most identified with and then order that. These cocktails were some of the most intricate creations I have ever seen. I ended up choosing a champagne cocktail that was so smooth and incredibly delicious.

We woke up early on Saturday to start our jam-packed day! We walked around London, popping into the stores before our main event! We began our food journey the best London way possible by going to Sketch for afternoon tea.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience in Sketch (the bathrooms are Instagram-worthy). However, I wouldn’t place Sketch on my afternoon tea list in London. As for the food: some of it was amazing, and some can be improved. I especially liked their sweet treats and scones (I want to have a scone every morning now). Their savory sandwiches were not our favorite. I loved the Victorian sponge cake. It was so good! However, I would also recommend visiting Fortnum & Mason afternoon tea, which was absolutely worth every penny.

I'm dying to visit Linnean Living, Cadogan Hotel, The Ritz, Claridge’s, Rubén’s, and Candella Tea Room for their afternoon teas!

Sunday was THE DAY regarding food. We ended up eating the whole day, and let me just say, I LOVED IT! We woke up and headed towards a flower market (around Columbia Road). The market had many restaurants, bakeries, and so much food around. I picked up a sausage and egg bagel from Lupo’s that was needed and delicious. (I miss ordering a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel in the mornings, and this hit that craving!)

After walking for a bit, we were in desperate need of sweets, so we stopped by Cake Hole, where I had a delicious lemon drizzle cake and some scones with clotted cream and jam (I’m telling you, I need to have this for brekkie every day now).

We then headed to Borough Market. When I decided to go to London, this place was on my list and should be part of yours. It is an incredible market filled with many delicious food and drink. We walked around for a while with a drink in hand (I had an elderflower-infused gin that was incredible). After a time, we decided to sit down and order a classic fish and chips that was, as you guessed it, delicious (and very on theme for London).

We returned to the hotel to prepare for dinner and headed to Sushi Samba. This place is on the 39th floor of Heron Tower, and the views are insane. The vibes of the restaurant were immaculate, and as for the food… it was worth all the hype we saw on TikTok. I started with a martini that was ah…mazing. I then ordered some spicy lobster taquitos for starters and was tempted to order more (that’s how good they were). As for mains, I decided on the shrimp tempura and California roll. Both were amazing, especially that shrimp tempura. Overall, I loved this place.

London is incredible, and I am always so sad to leave. I want to continue visiting London and checking places off my list. I want to hit London’s brunch scene (I am dying to try Milk). I also need to go back and visit Borough Market; I need a whole day there, I swear! I also realized I could not try Indian food when visiting and know that Dishoom is one of the IT places to try.
