Paris: The land of speakeasies

Paris is truly magical. There is so much to see in this city, and some of the most iconic and best bars are hidden in plain sight! As I spent time in Paris, I loved these hidden bars, their ideas, and cocktail creations! Here are my favorite speakeasies and why you should visit them if you find yourself in Paris! I’ll divide this article into a few parts since there are so many speakeasies to discuss!

Candelaria

The hype is real behind this unique speakeasy! Candelaria is a Mexican speakeasy, and its cocktails are top-notch! Hidden behind a taqueria (which, if you want 5-euro margs and good tacos, visit them), Candelaria is a dimly lit bar that creates the most insane cocktails. It feels like you are having a few drinks while on vacation in Mexico near the beach (as an Island girl, I approve). Their cocktails…let me tell you, are so good. If you love tequila or mezcal, I HIGHLY recommend you visit Candelaria!

Moonshiner

This speakeasy emulates the word speakeasy because it is completely hidden! During my stay in my first apartment, I always saw this pizza place right down the street I wanted to visit. It was when one of my roommates told me that there was a speakeasy in our street that serves pizza that it all clicked. I was so shocked how we never noticed it was a speakeasy.…. They hid themselves there! I love Moonshiner. Some have even claimed that they create the best cocktails in Paris! This is your typical prohibition-era bar; it feels like you’ve been transported to the 1920’s. As for their cocktails, they are genuinely an intricate, unique creation that I have never seen before. For me, this place is a must-try in Paris.

Le 1905

As a gin lover, especially gin martini, this pace stole my heart when they prepared me the best martini I have ever had (periodt). Le 1905 is located above a great restaurant called Vins des Pyrenees (I also recommend visiting this restaurant and ordering the squid stuffed with chorizo). The bar gives this gilded age glamour and transports you to 1905 Paris! It’s such a good bar; I cannot emphasize this enough! I love, adore, and love a million times this bar! It's located right in front of Place des Voges, so after a lovely sunny day walking around Le Marais, have some dinner in VdP and then head up to Le 1905!

Baranaan

Butter chicken and good cocktails! Baranaan is an Indian speakeasy that quite literally transports you to vacation mode! The 1950s Bombay Prohibitions Act inspires the bar, and the cocktails speak for themselves! I tried a few drinks, but my absolute favorite was the Jaisalmer, a vodka and mango cocktail that is so good! The bar itself is decorated as if you on a plane were flying to India! And let’s talk about the food! The Indian Street food of this restaurant is so good! We always order the classic butter chicken with some naan! If you want good drinks and food, I highly recommend visiting Baranaan!
