Spend a day eating around… Cincinnati

usa Oct 02, 2023

It was the beginning of June, and I was finally visiting the icon herself… LA MARGARITAA (“Meg”). It was a long time coming, and I was so excited to spend a whole weekend with the queen, visiting Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati! Now, let me say I was impressed with Cincinnati and loved walking around, eating, and spending quality time with my friend. So, without further ado, I share our gorgeous day around Cincinnati.

We woke up and took our slow morning to drink some tea while enjoying the warm summer breeze. By 11 a.m., we were heading into Cincinnati to get some delicious breakfast. Our first stop was Brown Bear Bakery. I was thoroughly impressed by this unique bakery and the creative treats we had. We each ordered two pastries and shared them. Meg chose a delicious raspberry almond croissant, a goat cheese, and a radish croissant. Both were delicious, especially that goat cheese croissant. As for me, I decided on a citrus cinnamon roll and a hibiscus and lime shortbread cookie. The cinnamon roll was exquisite; I never thought I would see citrus added to a cinnamon roll, but it quickly became such an iconic combination that I didn’t know I needed. As for the shortbread cookie, I adored the lime part, and though it worked well, I was missing a bit from the hibiscus. Overall, such a good bakery!

After our meal, we decided to walk around the city, passing through the Above the Rhine neighborhood and heading into the Findlay Market. You know me, I love a market, and Meg knew what she was doing. This fantastic market has so much produce and gorgeous stalls with amazing food. I loved walking around and looking through everything. They also have beautiful local stores selling such cute stuff around the market. We then walked a bit more and returned to the house to rest for a while.

After our much-needed break, we were going to a Cincinnati Reds Baseball game! I was so excited, especially to eat some iconic baseball food. If you’ve ever heard of Cincinnati, you may also know its famous Skyline Chili. This was all over the stadium. You can order the chili in various ways, but the one I tried and liked was having a hotdog with the chili and a mountain of cheese on top. We ate hotdogs, nachos, and cheese and had some beer while enjoying the game.

After the game, we were still a bit hungry and needed some pizza. We stopped at Taglio for some Detroit deep-dish pizza that was so delicious. Our pizza had pepperoni and honey…the best combo. We then headed out for some drinks.

Meg had made a reservation at an ICONIC cocktail bar that was something else: Ghost Baby. This bar was so gorgeous; I loved it. Once you arrive, you will go down millions of stairs (there is an elevator) and arrive at the most beautiful bar. If you have a reservation, head towards the back, where they have some tables and live music. This was just a whole vibe. As for cocktails, I adored them! They had a few spritzes that were delicious.

Finally, we had one more stop, Alice Bar, which coincidently had a Latino night, and needless to say, I had so much fun. This was your typical bar/mini club hybrid, but it had some good cocktails (definitely better than what you get at the club). I ordered some lemon drops. We had so much fun and ended the night on such a high.

I want to mention three other places I visited throughout the weekend that are worth discussing.

  1. Graeter’s - iconic ice cream shop with a million flavors. Such creamy and classic ice cream.
  2. Four Roses Bourbon - we did a little bourbon tour and had so much fun that day. Even though I’m not the biggest bourbon fan, I loved the experience.
  3. Silver Grove Dari Bar - my favorite type of ice cream is soft serve, and this place was delicious. It's literally a shack, and that’s it; I loved it.

I cannot be happier with my time in Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati. I was even happier to be with my friend and enjoy a fantastic time together. I loved what we did and was so delighted with everything.
